Owner-Operator / Contractor Information
The following are some of the most frequently asked questions concerning ABG's
Lease Program:
What is the percentage of pay?
You'll earn 90% of the gross for a tractor and trailer.
You'll earn 90% of the gross for tractor only and you will need to rent a
trailer either from us. Trailer rentals start at $700 per
month for a dry van.
What if I have my own MC# and operate a small Fleet (1 to 3) of trucks?
You'll earn 92% of revenue if you have your own MC# and Insurance
and take loads from us on consistent basis.
Does ABG have a Fuel Surcharge program?
Yes.
How quickly will I get Settlements?
ABG settles twice each week. If your paperwork is turned in by Tuesday morning,
it will be settled on Friday. If your paperwork is turned in by Friday morning,
it will be settled on Wednesday. Direct Deposit is available.
What about advances?
After the shipment has been picked up we can advance you up to 40% of the
truck's revenue. These advances are issued via T-chekŪ. Additionally, we
offer you a T-Chek fuel card to use for convenience purposes. If you use
our card for a full quarter, we will be able to provide you at no charge with a
Fuel Tax report to use to file your IFTA fuel Taxes.
Does ABG require an Escrow Fund?
Yes, $1000 will be held in escrow at all times. This money will be
deducted over the first 4 trips at the rate of $ 250 per trip, it will be held
in your escrow account. This money is completely refundable to you after
30 days of your termination. If there are any tickets or discrepancies
this money is used to offset these problems.
How often can I get through home?
We know that getting home regularly is very important to our owner-operators.
Our dispatchers aggressively solicit our customers in order to pre-book the best
load that meets your needs. Based on your individual preference, our dispatch
will get you through home as often as possible. Typically, if you live in one of
our traffic lanes, you can expect to get through home about every 5 to 10 days.
Who furnishes the insurance?
ABGfurnishes cargo and auto liability insurance at additional cost. Physical
Damage and Bobtail insurance are available through ABG at attractive fleet rates
when selected we will put you in touch with our broker to bind for you.
Does ABG Require Worker's Compensation insurance for Owner-Operators?
As an Owner-Operator you do not need to provide Worker's Compensation
insurance. However, if you utilize a driver who is not party to the lease, we
require proof of Worker's Compensation insurance for that driver to be on file
at ABG.
Am I required to use ABG's base plate?
You may use any current IRP base plate as long as that plate is in the
Contractor's name and is registered for all states. If you do not have your own
base plate, we can get you a FL or New Jersey IRP base plate in ABG's name.
What other permits are required?
You'll need a ABG's Single-State Registration Card as well as various Fuel
Permits and Decals. ABG's safety department will secure these items for you.
What type of equipment is required?
All equipment must be late model.
Trailers must be at least 48' X 102" Reefers with ribbed, aluminum floors. They
must be capable of maintaining zero (0) degrees F or below. Trailers must also
be equipped with an air chute. All equipment must be properly maintained and be
adequately equipped to handle mountain terrain. Equipment must also pass a
Federal DOT inspection. Dry Van Trailers need to be 53'x102" air ride.

How much experience is required?
We require a minimum of 3 years driving experience, which includes at least 1
year of reefer experience. Drivers must be at least 25 years old.
How many moving violations are allowed?
Generally up to 3 moving violations in 3 years are allowed. However, that number
can vary depending on the severity of the violations. Drivers with a DUI or
driving with a suspended license within the last 3 years are disqualified.
Am I required to take a drug screen and/or physical?
You will be required to take a prequalification drug screen. The total cost of
the drug screen is paid for by you. If you have a current verifiable DOT
physical, then you may only have to take the drug screen. For Owner-Operators
who are leased to ABG "random" drug/alcohol screens are paid for by ABG.
Can my spouse ride with me?
We can authorize spouses to ride with Owner-Operators for specified periods of
time. A release letter must be completed and carried in the truck.
How long does it take to get going?
It takes approximately 4 hours in our office and about 1 hour at the clinic to
get your Physical and/or Drug Screen. We can normally get Drug Screen results in
24 hours:
